Central Nova MP Sean Fraser says it’s an announcement that he expects will be the first of many in leading to more housing development under a federal program. The Housing Accelerator Fund offers incentives to local governments to improve housing supply.
Fraser, who is also the federal housing minister says a number of Nova Scotia municipalities, including some locally have applied to the fund, but Halifax is the first one in the province to be approved.
Fraser says it’s expected over the next three years, Halifax will adopt measures through this fund that will lead to 2,600 new homes built and nearly 9,000 over the next decade.
Fraser says he’s excited to be moving soon to smaller communities that have applied under the fund.
