The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League’s Board of Govenors has granted the Cumberland County Blues a year’s leave of absence.
Cumberland Governor Bill Riley says without local players from Springhill and Amherst, he was left with no choice to ask the league to allow the team to step aside for a year.
The board decided with the Blues already having played six games with short bench strength, Cumberland would forfeit their final 26 games with each opponent earning two points.
Board chair Danny Hines of East Hants says the decision wasn’t an easy one, but Riley was encouraged to stay in touch with the league about the potential of a team next season in a different location.
