Four members of the Cape Breton West Islanders have won Academic Awards from the 
Nova Scotia Eastlink Under-18 Major Hockey League.
Daniel LeBlanc has been selected the winner of the $1,000 Dianna Thorton Education Fund Scholarship Award. It is presented to a player who best combines academic achievement, leadership potential and hockey ability.
Jack Hartery has been awarded the $1,000 
Eastlink Scholarship Award. It is presented to a player who best combines sportsmanship, hockey ability and practiced the Principles of Fair Play both on and off the ice
Blake and Luke Hadley are co-winners of the
$1,000 IceJam Tournament Scholarship Award. It’s presented to a player or players who are members in good standing with the Nova Scotia Eastlink Under 18 Major Hockey League and the Cape Breton West Islanders.
