The head coach for the StFX soccer teams says the squads should be very competitive this year.
Graham Kennedy, who is in his 15th season at StFX, said both teams are in different places at this point in the season. He said the men’s team had a number of players come into training camp with soft tissue injuries so they are still not available. On the women’s side, they have had everyone available for selection.
Kennedy said they haven’t had to rebuild much with either team, noting of the five first-year players for the women, he said at least three of them are AUS ready right now, adding the team should be able to contend for the AUS title. He said they are also in a good position with the men’s team, adding when they get everyone healthy, he feels the experienced side will also be able to contend in the league.
So far, the women have two wins while the men are 1 and 1.
Both teams are on the road Saturday to take on perennial soccer powerhouse CBU, then return home for a double header against St. Mary’s, beginning at 1 p.m..
