Now that the ship Hector is out of the water at Pictou harbour, preparations begin on
determining the work needed to upgrade it. The full-size replica of the vessel that brought the first Scottish settlers to Nova Scotia in 1773 was removed from the water by a large crane on Friday. The owner of the vessel, the Ship Hector Society is planning a refit, with a completion date of 2023, the 250th anniversary of Hector’s arrival in Nova Scotia.
Society President Laurie MacDonald says experts will give the ship a closer look soon.
MacDonald says once they have estimates on the cost of the work, it will approach potential funders to start immediate work on the ship. Preliminary estimates on the refit have pegged the price tag at $1.4 million. If you would like to contributes towards the refit of the Ship Hector, follow this link: https://bit.ly/3f2NbzY
