Nova Scotia EMO Asks Residents to be Prepared for Hurricane Dorian’s Arrival

Sep 6, 2019 | Local News

With Dorian on the doorstep, the province’s EMO department is making plans.

Jason Mew, director of incident management with Nova Scotia EMO, said the department started tracking Hurricane Dorian for over a week alongside Environment and Climate Change Canada. He said EMO has visited or contacted municipalities to make sure they know what is coming and to be prepared.

Mew said EMO is asking people to be prepared for the storm with an emergency kit with items like food, water, batteries, radio, cash, medications, and keys. He also said people experiencing power outtages should contact Nova Scotia Power, as should people who see downed power lines.

Dorian is expected to land south of the Maritimes on Saturday before pushing through eastern Nova Scotia.

High winds and rain are expected to impact southeastern New Brunswick, P-E-I, Nova Scotia, western Newfoundland, and Quebec’s Lower North Shore with a chance of a storm surge that may affect parts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
