Pictou town council passed second reading of the inter-municipal planning strategy on land-use, developed in consultation with the towns of Trenton and Stellarton. Council also passed second reading of a Common Land-Use Bylaw that will be in effect for the three towns, and a Secondary Planning Strategy covering Pictou itself.
The biggest changes are re-zoning R1 residential lands to R2 to allow the building of duplexes or supplemental structures “as of right”, and allowing for “tiny homes” in new zones designated R6, as well as certain residential lots under 5,000 square feet.
These new rules now go to the provincial Municipal Affairs department for final approval: the documents will soon be available for review at the town office and on the town’s website
