Province Seeks Input from Nova Scotians from 16 Proposed New or Expanded Wilderness Areas

The province is asking residents to take part in a survey on 16 proposed new or expanded wilderness areas and nature reserves. The provincial government is looking to protect 20 per cent of its land and water by 2030.

The Environment and Climate Change Department launched an online survey on Friday. Public input will be accepted until September 20. To participate in the survey, follow this link:  https://www.novascotia.ca/nse/protectedareas/

There are a number of local spots amongst the new proposed or expanded wilderness areas and nature reserves including

– the Antigonish Nature Reserve
– Bonnet Lake Barrens Wilderness Area in Guysborough County
– Canso Coastal Barrens Wilderness Area in Guysborough County
– Caribou River Nature Reserve in Pictou County
– Eigg Mountain-James River Wilderness Area in Antigonish County
– Fourchu Coast Wilderness Area in Richmond and Cape Breton counties
– Middle River Wilderness Area in Inverness County
