Nova Scotia Environment Minister Gordon Wilson issued a ministerial order for Northern Pulp.
Wilson said this is the second ministerial order for northern pulp, with the first coming out in January. The January order pertained to the decommissioning and hibernating the mill.
In Late April, the Department of Environment released the terms of reference for an environmental assessment report regarding Northern pulp’s proposed replacement effluent treatment plant.
Wilson said the new ministerial order outlines what has to be done by giving the company clear direction and it gives the department the confidence the environment is going to be protected. This order, he said, offers guidance on how to the manage the Northern Pulp site for any environmental issues and direction how to ensure the site remains safe.
