The Hector, the full-size replica of the ship that brought the first Scottish settlers to Nova Scotia
in 1773 is getting an upgrade. The owner of the vessel, the Ship Hector Society is planning a refit. It’s hoping to have all the work completed by 2023, the 250th anniversary of the landing of the Hector in Pictou. It would also mark the 150th anniversary of the town. The chair of the Society, Laurie MacDonald, says the ship will be lifted out of the water in late April.
MacDonald says it’s estimated the cost of the upgrade is $1.4 million. MacDonald says the society is planning to engage in a fund-raising campaign. He says the society is also reaching out to various partners, including all three levels of government for support.
