St. FX Soccer’s Graham Kennedy named AUS Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year, Kyle Cordeiro named AUS Most Valuable Player

Atlantic University Sport announced its major award winners ahead of this weekend’s men’s and women’s soccer championships, and a number of all stars and award winners come from STFX.

STFX head coach Graham Kennedy was named the AUS women’s and men’s soccer coach of the year. In his eleventh season as head coach of the X-Women program, Kennedy led the team to an undefeated 12-0-0 record, a first-place finish in the regular season standings and a first-round playoff bye through to the championship semi-finals. In his 15th season at the helm of the X-Men program, Kennedy led his team to a 9-2-1 record, a second-place finish in the regular season standings and a first-round bye through to the AUS championship semi-final round.

Kennedy now becomes the Atlantic conference nominee for the U SPORTS coach of the year award.

STFX X-Men striker Kyle Cordeiro was named as the AUS men’s soccer most valuable player.

A fourth-year business student in his third year of eligibility from Oakville, Ontario, Cordeiro led the AUS in goals with nine this season for the U SPORTS no. 6-ranked X-Men. He finished tied for first in points with 11.

STFX X-Men midfielder Isaac VanWychen received the nod as the 2023 AUS rookie of the year. A human kinetics student from Middle Musquodoboit, N.S., VanWychen played in all 12 regular season games for the U SPORTS no. 6-ranked X-Men, scoring three goals and an assist.

First Team All-Stars from the X Women include defenders Abby Steen and Caitlin Crichton, midfielder Brynn Jurus, and striker Amanda Smith. Second Team All-Stars include goalie Christina Gentile, and midfielder Cheyenne Bower.

First team all-stars from the STFX men’s program include midfielders Logan Rieck, Max Bodurtha, and Cordeiro. Second team all-stars from the X-Men include Luke Green, and Dyan Vil.
