St. FX University now has 12 Cases of COVID-19; More Cases are Expected

Dec 8, 2021 | Local News

St. FX University officials say it has now received confirmation from Public Health that 12 members of the campus community have received positive tests for COVID-19. All are experiencing mild symptoms. Support services such as academic and groceries have been implemented for those needing to isolate. University President Andy Hakin, in a letter to the campus community, says more cases are expected in the coming days as Public Health continues to investigate and others are tested. Exposure notices related to specific locations will be released as they are identified.

Public Health has indicated to the school there is no need to interrupt the university’s operational plans regarding in-person exams. Hakin says it was noted in conjunction with mask-wearing, exam settings are typically a lower risk environment, due to physical spacing and limited interaction.

Public Health is setting up a mobile COVID-19 testing clinic on campus. Testing will take place at the Keating Centre from 2 to 6 today and 10 to 3 Thursday. Drop-in and booked appointments will be available. Rapid tests will also be available on site for pick-up. To book an appointment, visit https://covid-self-assessment.novascotia.ca/en
