Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher said the town is hoping for an update from Nova Scotia Power
is on the state of local power outages. Boucher said NSP experienced extensive damage to transformers which feed into the town, noting crews are in the area now. She said priorities are St. Martha’s Hospital and Post Road.
On the clean up side of things, the town is asking residents if they have downed trees on their property to please leave them for now.
The town is working on a strategy to deal with the larger debris. More information will be made available in the coming days. She said the major priority is making roads and sidewalks safe for everybody, and getting to trees on houses and power lines.
She said Indian Gardens area residents returned to their homes Sunday and Monday following a voluntary evacuation.
Today, aerial tree cutting will be taking place on various streets in the Town of Antigonish. Ground crews will also be on site for clean up once trees are brought down safety. These clean up efforts will result in street closures and/or traffic control for lane closures. Please use caution in these areas, be aware of downed and hanging trees as well as personnel on site.
